About Alice
Alice Valentine is a fiction and non-fiction writer, screenwriter, and director. Born in June 1993 in the vibrant city of Kingston, Jamaica, Alice credits her love of writing to her mother, and her 6th-grade teacher, Mr. Nelson.
She discovered her passion for writing at a young age when she began to transform the vivid images and ideas in her mind into stories for her school writing classes.
But it was in 2007, at the age of 14, that she had her first true awakening with the world of writing. The island had just been struck by Hurricane Dean, leaving her without power for two weeks. To ease her boredom, she decided to write a short story. That story ended up being 20 pages long, and she enjoyed every minute of the process. That was when she knew she was a writer and never looked back.
In 2016, she wrote and co-directed her first short film, Snapshot Kingston, with her friend and classmate, David "Boncrek" Johnson. In 2017, they teamed up once again to tackle the more serious issue of sex trafficking in Jamaica, with their short film Unbound.
Now, after a decade-long career as a marketing content writer, she is finally publishing what she considers her "what if" project.
Beyond the Sparks started as a dare and a challenge, and quickly became a favourite among her peers. After much convincing, Alice made the bold decision to publish the novel and finally pursue her career as a fiction writer.
Alice is a wife to her loving life partner, James, a bonus mom to two beautiful children, and an advocate for survivors of child sexual abuse.
